Possibly one of the rarer Ultra-Chron references, this example is distinguished by an unusually bold hexagonal case, an adventurous piece of design from Longines that is rarely seen today. Presented here is a substantial 38mm jumbo monocoque case, finished with a striking sunburst treatment across both the top and underside of the case. The unconventional design continues with the crown positioned at 4 o’clock and the date aperture at 4:30, giving the watch a distinctive and highly architectural presence on the wrist. The rich, deep-toned blue dial provides a beautiful contrast against the white accented central seconds hand, adding just the right amount of visual intrigue. Powering the watch is Longines’ in-house high-beat Cal. 6651, operating at an impressive 28,800 vibrations per hour (8 beats per second). It also features an instantaneous date change at midnight, showcasing Longines’ continued technical development during the era and further cementing the Ultra-Chron’s place as one of the brand’s more technically ambitious vintage timepieces.
